Campaign planning

Which Mission Should You Do First in STAR WARS Zero Company?

Zero Company never lets you clear the whole board — Operations and Tactical Missions can expire, and the campaign advances the moment you launch a Mission. This page ranks the board by what becomes impossible after the next Cycle, then by what your run actually needs, and prints the reason behind every call.

The rules underneath

What the Campaign Layer Actually Says

Everything on this page is built on the game's own campaign strings. They are quoted rather than paraphrased, so you can check the priority advice against them.

Cycles are a unit of time across STAR WARS Zero Company's campaign. Each cycle begins after returning to the Den after completing a Mission.

You are not supposed to clear every icon

  • The game states that every objective has a limited time frame, and that you will not be able to respond to every opportunity.
  • That is not a difficulty spike — it is the campaign layer. Choosing what to spend a Cycle on is the decision the mode is built around.
  • A board where something was allowed to expire is a played campaign, not a failed one.

What Do You Need This Cycle?

Pick the outcome you want. The board below does not move to another page — it reorders, and the tags on each card change with it. Campaign consequences stay visible whichever answer you choose.

I want the campaign to move

Main Story records move up, and any Critical Mission close to its countdown moves to the top.

Read order

The Priority Framework

Six questions, asked in this order. It is deliberately a framework rather than a fixed route: choices, injuries, Operations and reward goals all move the board, so a hard-coded mission order would be wrong for most saves.

  1. Step 1

    Is anything forced right now?

A Critical Mission at 1 Cycle remaining must be launched. Nothing else on the board outranks a rule the game enforces.

  2. Step 2

    What disappears if I advance?

Operations and Hero Missions carry explicit expiry facts in the campaign data. Those are the opportunities the next Cycle can delete.

  3. Step 3

    Does anything unlock unique content?

Several Hero Missions require a specific Operation first. Spending the Cycle on the Operation opens the chain; skipping it can close it.

  4. Step 4

What does the campaign need now?

Credits, Intel, Influence, Gear, Focus Points or Operator progression — the board reorders by what you are short of.

  5. Step 5

    Which squad is actually available?

A required Operator sitting in a Medbay bed can turn a good Mission into a missed one. Roster fit is a real ranking input, not a footnote.

  6. Step 6

Which of the rest is worth the Cycle?

Once the forced and disappearing content is handled, take the option that pays what you need — or bank the Cycle and re-check with a healthy squad.

This Cycle

Mission Priority Board

A worked example built from the shipped records, not a generated route. Every card names real signals: an expiry fact, a follow-up record, a required Operator or a recorded payout. Your own board depends on campaign state, which is why the planner below takes your input instead of pretending to read your save.

Spoiler-light: briefings, character outcomes and follow-up names are hidden.

Rule, not preference

Should You Do Critical Missions Immediately?

Not necessarily — but the reason matters. A Critical Mission is the one thing on the board the game will stop letting you postpone.

Critical Missions are required to advance the campaign. When they reach 1 cycle remaining you must launch this mission.

Critical Mission keyword

Delaying is allowed while the countdown is above 1 Cycle

  • → Optional content that would otherwise expire can be taken first.
  • → A required Operator can spend the Cycle in the Medbay before you are forced to deploy.
  • → You can spend Intel on Operations while the board is still open.

Delaying past that point is not a strategy

  • → The launch becomes mandatory, so the only thing delay buys after that is a worse squad.
  • → Project what is still on the board after the next Cycle before committing the current one.
  • → Treat "wait until the last Cycle" as unsafe advice: injuries, Crisis content and forced Missions all change the board in between.

Intel comes from Missions, not Operations

Every Tactical Mission pays a base 100 Intel plus bonuses, and Operations are where Intel is spent. So "I need Intel" answers with Mission records and the Intel cap, not with an Operation that consumes it.

Timer semantics

Expires, Completes or Turns Mandatory?

One number, four meanings. Reading them all as "I have a Cycle left" is the most common way to lose a Cycle to nothing at all.

EXPIRES IN

This is a deadline

The opportunity is lost when the campaign advances past it. This is the only countdown that costs you content outright.

1 Cycle remaining to complete

This is already running

An objective or Operation that is in progress and finishes on its own. Nothing is lost by letting it run — the game prints the same number for both cases.

Critical

This stops being optional

A Critical Mission that reaches 1 Cycle remaining must be launched. Delaying buys room for optional content until that point, then stops being an option.

No countdown

No recorded deadline

Nothing in the shipped data gives this record a deadline. That is not a promise that it never expires — it is the absence of evidence.

I Can't Find the Mission That Says 1 Cycle

The countdown label is reused across several systems, so the fastest way to find the right entry is to read the verb on the line rather than the number.

  • EXPIRES INA real deadline on an Operation or Mission that is still available.Look for the entry on the Holotable with the same name. It is waiting for you to take it.
  • “remaining to complete”Work that is already in progress, not a Mission card you can pick up.Nothing to launch. Let the Cycle pass, or find the Operation that started it.
  • N Cycles RemainingA countdown on an active objective or tracker, read off its own panel.Open that objective. If it belongs to a Mission you already launched, it is already handled.
  • MISSION EXPIRED: Mission NameThe window already closed. The game names the Mission in the notification.Check what that Mission used to unlock — a follow-up chain can depend on it.
  • No entry at allThe record is not on the current board, which is a campaign-state question rather than a timer question.Check its requirement: another Mission, an Operator in the roster, or a resolved decision.
  • Analyzing Courtsilius smugglers' manifest: 1 Cycle remaining to complete
  • Awaiting Tel-Rea's intel on the Coil: 1 Cycle remaining to complete

Crisis Mission has expired

These are the shipped countdown strings. Two of them are attached to records in the strategy layer, and an exact per-Mission deadline is still not recovered for the others.

Spoiler control

Keep the Story Out of the Decision

Priority decisions do not need narrative context. The board is spoiler-light by default: it shows the type, the countdown, the required Operator, the reward categories and the unlock type, and hides briefings, character outcomes and follow-up names behind the toggle at the top of the board.

  • → Search titles and headings on this page never name a character outcome.
  • → Follow-up records are shown as a count until you turn consequences on.
  • → The planner ranks urgency and value, not plot.

How it works

How This Page Decides

No score, no hidden weighting and no black box: the ranking is the framework above, printed as sentences. These are the inputs it is allowed to use, and the boundaries it keeps.

  • Is anything forced right now?A Critical Mission at 1 Cycle remaining must be launched. Nothing else on the board outranks a rule the game enforces.
  • What disappears if I advance?Operations and Hero Missions carry explicit expiry facts in the campaign data. Those are the opportunities the next Cycle can delete.
  • Does anything unlock unique content?Several Hero Missions require a specific Operation first. Spending the Cycle on the Operation opens the chain; skipping it can close it.
  • What does the campaign need now?Credits, Intel, Influence, Gear, Focus Points or Operator progression — the board reorders by what you are short of.
  • Which squad is actually available?A required Operator sitting in a Medbay bed can turn a good Mission into a missed one. Roster fit is a real ranking input, not a footnote.
  • Which of the rest is worth the Cycle?Once the forced and disappearing content is handled, take the option that pays what you need — or bank the Cycle and re-check with a healthy squad.

Why is there no exact Cycle deadline on these records?

The shipped data carries an expiry fact per record but no per-record deadline number, and the page never invents one. What it can show is which records are marked expirable, which is enough to decide what not to sit on.

How does this page know a Mission is Critical?

The rule is quoted from the game: Critical Missions are required to advance the campaign and must be launched at 1 Cycle remaining. The page treats the 13 Main Story records as the campaign spine rather than guessing individual flags.

Can this page read my campaign?

No. Injuries, remaining Cycles and the records on your board are your input here. The page ranks what you type in, and says why.

FAQ

Mission Priority FAQ

Which mission should I do first in Zero Company?

The one whose window closes first among the things that cannot be replaced: a forced Critical Mission, then a record with a verified expiry fact that unlocks something, then the unique Operator content. Value payouts come after consequence.

Is there a best mission order?

No fixed one. The board is scoped to the current Cycle and changes with your choices, injuries, Intel and campaign state, so a single hard-coded order would be wrong for most saves. This page gives a read order instead.

Should I do Critical Missions immediately?

Not necessarily. The game only forces the launch when the countdown reaches 1 Cycle remaining, so while it is above that you can spend the Cycle on content that would otherwise disappear. Project what is still on the board after the next Cycle before you decide.

Can you delay story missions?

Yes, until the countdown reaches 1 Cycle remaining. At that point a Critical Mission must be launched, so delayed optional content should be finished before you let it get there.

Do Critical Missions expire?

They are not lost — they become obligatory. 13 records sit on the Main Story route, and the game's own rule says a Critical Mission at 1 Cycle remaining must be launched, which is a different failure mode from an expiring Operation: you lose the room to choose, not the content.

What happens when a Critical Mission timer reaches zero?

The rule as shipped says the launch becomes mandatory at 1 Cycle remaining. The page does not claim a beyond-zero behaviour the data does not state.

Should I do side missions before the main story?

When unique content would disappear first, yes — any of the 20 records with a verified expiry fact is a candidate. When a Critical Mission is already forced, no.

Should I prioritize Hero Missions?

All 11 Hero Missions carry expiry facts, and the ones with follow-ups gate their own sequels. That makes them high value, but not unconditionally first: a forced Critical Mission outranks them.

Can Hero Missions expire?

Yes. Every Hero Mission record carries an explicit expiry fact, and the game has a notification string for a Hero Mission expiring.

Can Companion Missions be missed?

The expiry facts are attached to the Hero Mission records, so treat any Hero Mission you have not completed as able to close. Whether a given save sees it again is a campaign-state question this page cannot read.

Do Missions advance the Cycle?

Yes. The board is scoped to the current Cycle and a Cycle begins after returning to the Den after completing a Mission, so launching the Mission is the action that moves time.

Should I do Operations before Missions?

Review them before you launch. Operations resolve in the strategic layer and cost Intel, while the Tactical Mission is what ends the Cycle — so anything you meant to spend Intel on has to be decided first.

Can Operations expire?

Yes. 20 records in the current data carry expiry evidence, and most of them are Operations tied to an Operator chain.

Can you complete every Mission?

No, and the game says so directly: every objective has a limited time frame and you will not be able to respond to every opportunity.

Can you complete every Operation?

No. Intel is the limit — the Intel Cap bounds what you gain per Cycle, so Operations are a spending decision rather than a checklist.

What should I do if two Missions expire at once?

Take the one with dependents. A record that unlocks a follow-up cannot be substituted later, while a Credit or Capacitor payout usually has other sources.

Should I choose rewards or the shortest timer?

Timer decides urgency; reward decides value, and neither decides alone. Rank by what becomes impossible after the next Cycle, then by what your run needs right now.

What happens if I skip a Mission?

You can lose the record, its follow-up chain, its payout and any Operator progression attached to it. A generic resource another record also pays is not permanently missable just because this record did.

Why can’t I find a Mission that says 1 Cycle?

“1 Cycle remaining to complete” is used for work that is finishing, such as an objective already in progress — not only for deadlines. Look at the verb: EXPIRES IN is a deadline, “remaining to complete” is a running objective.

What does “completes in 1 Cycle” mean?

It means the objective resolves on its own after a Cycle passes. There is nothing to launch and nothing to lose.

Should I heal an Operator before an expiring Mission?

If a required Operator is Injured and the record can expire, treatment competes with the window: a Bed costs the Cycle, the Bacta Tank does not but is disabled on Hard and Expert. Contact Sawtooth is an example of an Operation whose follow-up Hero Mission also carries an expiry fact.

Are Mission rewards the same as missable content?

No. This page separates the mission opportunity, which can be missable, from the reward type, which usually has other sources.
