Problem router

STAR WARS Zero Company Troubleshooting

A problem router rather than an FAQ. Describe the symptom and this page decides what it actually is: a game rule that reads like a fault, an unlock condition that has not been met yet, a launch-version bug that a patch already fixed, or a real technical problem.

The rule this page follows

Don’t start with “how do I fix it?” Start with “is the game actually behaving incorrectly?”

Use the game data to diagnose rules and requirements. Use official patch and support information to diagnose technical problems.

  1. Symptom

What you saw, in your own words.

  2. Check

The rule or requirement the game actually records.

  3. Result

Rule, requirement, fixed issue or possible fault.

  4. Next action

The shortest safe step, or a report worth sending.

First question

Bug, Rule or Missing Requirement?

Three categories separate almost every problem report, and the answer changes what you should do next.

  • Game Rule

    GAME RULE

The game is working as designed, but the condition is easy to misunderstand.

    • ·“Completes in 1 Cycle” is a timer, not a mission that is already done
    • ·A Mission requirement you have not read yet
    • ·Bacta is disabled on Hard and Expert rather than broken
    • ·The third Injury is the Permadeath threshold, not a display bug
    • ·An Operation costs Intel, so an unaffordable Operations board is correct
  • Progression Condition

    REQUIREMENT

Something has not unlocked because a Mission, conversation, Operator or campaign state is still missing.

    • ·A Hero Mission has not appeared yet
    • ·A Secondary Specialization is still locked
    • ·An Operator Mission has not triggered
    • ·A Den upgrade cannot be bought yet
  • Technical Issue

    POSSIBLE BUG

The expected rule is satisfied, but the game still fails to behave correctly.

    • ·The game crashes or freezes
    • ·A save disappears
    • ·An enemy is stuck somewhere unreachable
    • ·An objective cannot be completed by any action

Three questions

  1. 1What did you expect to happen?
  2. 2What actually happened instead?
  3. 3Does the recorded rule say the expected condition is already satisfied?
  • GAME RULE

    Working as designed

The rule explains the behaviour. Nothing is broken and no fix will change it.

  • REQUIREMENT

    Unlock condition not met

Find the missing prerequisite and the “problem” disappears on its own.

  • FIXED

    Already fixed in a patch

Update the game first. A launch-version bug is not worth debugging on the current build.

  • POSSIBLE BUG

    Possible current bug

The verified conditions are met but the behaviour does not match the rule, which makes it worth reporting and diagnosing properly.

Category 1

Mission & Objective Problems

The objective, the target and the trigger — checked in that order, because most “stuck” missions are one of the three.

Symptoms in this group

  • Mission won’t start
  • Mission won’t appear
  • Objective won’t update
  • Enemy won’t spawn
  • Enemy is unreachable
  • Mission won’t end
  • Required character is missing
  • Timer is confusing

Check in this order

  1. 1Name the exact objective that is still open
  2. 2Name the target or interaction that objective expects
  3. 3Confirm the required Operator is deployed rather than benched or injured
  4. 4Confirm every earlier step in the walkthrough is closed

If all four hold and the objective still will not close, it is a state problem rather than a rules problem — record it as a report instead of replaying the mission a fifth time.

An unreachable enemy is a mission-state problem, not a mechanic

When an objective asks you to remove every enemy and one cannot be reached or attacked, no amount of correct play closes it. That is the one “stuck mission” case where the answer really is a report rather than another check.

Category 2

Missing or Disappeared Missions

A Mission that is absent and a Mission that vanished are different problems with different answers.

Check in this order

  1. 1Previous Mission complete
  2. 2Required conversation had
  3. 3Required Operator on the roster
  4. 4Campaign state reached
  5. 5No mutually exclusive branch taken
  6. 6Expiry window respected

A Mission that never appeared is almost always a prerequisite. A Mission that vanished after the Cycle turned over is usually expiry or a branch, both of which are the campaign working as designed.

Mission availability check

Name the Mission and this page prints its recorded prerequisite instead of guessing. It cannot read your save, so each row is yours to confirm — but you will be checking the condition the game actually uses.

The recorded graph describes 16 of 123 Missions. When a Mission has a prerequisite, the checker shows it; when it does not, the checker says so rather than inventing one.

Why this page does not get a URL per Mission

A per-Mission “not working” page would repeat the same prerequisite list for every Mission on the site. Requirement questions belong to the Mission record, and only the cross-entity problems get a page of their own.

Category 3

Combat Mechanics Problems

Separate the mechanic from the fault before you spend an evening changing settings.

Symptoms in this group

  • Overwatch won’t fire
  • A 100% shot missed
  • Ability is unavailable
  • Can’t target an enemy
  • Can’t use a Utility
  • Hit chance looks wrong
  • ·Identify the exact action that did not resolve
  • ·Check whether the action had a condition attached to it
  • ·Reproduce it once, deliberately, on the current build

Combat problems split cleanly: either the mechanic was misread, or the action should have resolved and did not. Only the second one is a bug report.

Category 4

Overwatch

The most reported combat behaviour in the game, and the one where the rule and the fault are hardest to tell apart.

Overwatch didn’t fire

PLAYER-REPORTED
  • Didn’t fire
  • Triggered unexpectedly
  • Enemy fired through cover
  • Wrong cone or wrong target

First check

  1. 1Confirm the enemy crossed the active cone rather than stopping inside it
  2. 2Confirm line of sight existed at the moment of the move
  3. 3Confirm the shot was not resolved by the normal cover rules
  4. 4Note the build — Overwatch behaviour changed across patches

Overwatch uses the currently supported ranged calculation path for these values. This calculator does not model whether Overwatch triggers.

Patch status: Patch 1.1 shipped fixes for several Overwatch behaviours, and reports continued afterwards. The behaviour stays player-reported until the trigger itself can be reproduced, which is why the checks above come before any bug claim.

Category 5

Hit Chance

A version-sensitive answer: the launch-version problem and the current-build rule are not the same thing.

FIXED

Launch version

A displayed 100% hit chance could still miss. That was a launch-version defect, not a rule.

GAME RULE

Patch 1.1 and later

A displayed 100% hit chance is expected to hit. Confirm your build before anything else.

Each validated Strike point reduces standard ranged Hit Chance by 5 percentage points.

  1. 1Confirm the game build before anything else
  2. 2Check the Strike points applied by cover
  3. 3Check whether the target used Evasion or a Guaranteed Miss state

Still seeing it on Patch 1.1? Confirm the build, reproduce it once deliberately, and treat it as a new issue rather than a launch-version one.

Category 6

Abilities, Operators & Den Unlocks

Greyed out is not the same as broken, and the difference is usually a requirement you can read.

Symptoms in this group

  • Specialization still locked
  • Secondary Specialization locked
  • Talent locked
  • Cross Training unavailable
  • Operator not recruitable
  • Den upgrade locked
  • Utility or Mod slot locked
  • Black Market locked
  • ·Read the recorded requirement rather than guessing it
  • ·Check the prerequisite upgrade or Mission the requirement points at
  • ·Check the Den state or roster the requirement refers to

A greyed-out entry is a statement about your campaign, not a fault. An entry that accepts the click and does nothing is a different problem.

Is the button disabled, or not responding?

  • REQUIREMENT

The button is greyed out and will not accept the click

Likely a requirement or a game state

Check the unlock condition for that specific entry rather than restarting the game.

  • POSSIBLE BUG

The button accepts the click and nothing happens

    Potential interface or technical problem

Record the input, the screen and the build — this is the version worth reporting.

Category 7

Save & Beskar Problems

The one category where the first move is to stop touching things and record the symptom.

Save safety

Before you quit, give the game a moment to finish saving.

If you quit before control has returned to Hawks, the most recent progress may not have finished saving. Wait until you are back in control, or a Mission has started, and give it a few seconds before you close the game.

  1. 1Return control to Hawks before quitting
  2. 2Wait a few seconds once you are back in control
  3. 3Quit from the game menu rather than force-closing

Do this in order

  1. 1Identify the platform
  2. 2Record the exact symptom, in order, before doing anything
  3. 3Preserve the current save state — do not move or delete files
  4. 4Check the game build
  5. 5Follow the official recovery path

High-risk file surgery is never the first step. Identify, record, preserve, check the build, then use the official route.

What not to do first

  • ·Do not delete or move save files before you have recorded the symptom
  • ·Do not disable cloud sync as a first move — it can remove the copy you wanted to keep
  • ·Do not follow a workaround that copies files around without a stated, verified reason

Recovery steps that rewrite files are only worth taking with a verified reason. Until then, the save you have is the best evidence you have.

Patch 1.1 save fixes

  • Beskar save temporarily removedA temporary save removal specific to Beskar mode. Fixed in Patch 1.1.
  • Save corruption after a forced shutdownA corruption case tied to forcing the game closed. Fixed in Patch 1.1.
  • Some preorder and Deluxe content not deliveredPart of the preorder and Deluxe entitlement delivery was corrected in Patch 1.1.
  • Several crash causesPatch 1.1 shipped a batch of stability fixes across reported crash points.

Still happening on Patch 1.1? Then it is a current-build problem and worth a report, not a historical footnote.

Category 8

Crash & Freeze

Classified by where it happens, because the crash point says more than the platform does.

When does it happen?

The crash point is a better clue than the platform. Pick the closest one and note it before changing anything.

  • Before the main menu

Often driver or platform-service related, and usually repeatable.

  • Loading a save

Points at the save rather than the renderer — preserve it.

  • Starting a Mission

Often a specific Mission or deployment state.

  • During combat

Note the exact action that preceded it.

  • Enemy turn

Frequently described as a freeze, sometimes with a reaction shot queued.

  • After a Mission

Often on the transition or results screen.

  • Returning to the Den

Transitions and loads rather than combat.

Official first steps

Low risk, in this order, before any community workaround.

  1. 1Restart the game and the platformThe cheapest step, and it resolves more of these than any setting change.
  2. 2Update the gameCheck the build first. A launch-version bug is not worth debugging.
  3. 3Check platform and EA servicesAn outage can look like a local fault.
  4. 4Repair or verify the game filesWhere the platform supports it.
  5. 5Clear the cacheA supported platform step rather than a file-level experiment.
  6. 6Update the GPU driverPC only, and worth doing before any advanced workaround.

Advanced / hardware-specific

Community workarounds exist for specific hardware and driver combinations. They are not official steps, they are not the first thing to try, and some of them are hard to undo.

  • ·Driver rollback for one specific driver generation
  • ·Hardware or firmware-level tuning
  • ·Hand-edited configuration files

Report it with evidence attached

Note the platform, the crash point, any error message, the driver version and the game build before you change a single setting — otherwise you will not know which change mattered.

Category 9

Performance & FPS

Frame rate is a different problem from a crash, and this game is CPU-bound rather than purely GPU-bound.

A performance issue is not a crash issue

The official FAQ describes the game as CPU-bound, so lowering GPU-heavy settings does not necessarily give the same gain it gives in other games.

  1. 1Separate frame rate from stability — a stutter is not a crash
  2. 2Check the upscaling setting before dropping image quality
  3. 3Change one setting at a time and note the result

Category 10

Controls & UI

Input that stopped responding is technical. A button that refuses to click may be a requirement.

Symptoms in this group

  • Keyboard stopped responding
  • Can’t close a menu
  • Controller input is broken
  • Interface element is missing
  • Can’t select a weapon
  1. 1Check whether the control is disabled or unresponsive — the two have different causes
  2. 2Check whether the game is waiting on a prompt you dismissed
  3. 3Record the point of the soft-lock and the exact input that failed

Menu and input soft-locks have been reported since launch. A disabled button is usually a requirement; a button that clicks and does nothing is not.

Category 11

Missing Deluxe or Preorder Content

Entitlement content and in-game unlocks are delivered by two different systems and need two different answers.

FIXED

Entitlement content

Preorder and Deluxe items are delivered by the store and the account. Part of that delivery was corrected in Patch 1.1.

  • ·Confirm the game build first
  • ·Confirm the purchase is on the account you are playing on
  • ·Take a remaining gap to official support rather than a workaround
REQUIREMENT

Gameplay unlock

A Weapon, Utility, Operator or Mission is unlocked by playing. These have a recorded requirement in the database, so check the condition rather than the store.

  • ·Decide whether it is entitlement content or a gameplay unlock
  • ·Entitlement: check the build, the account and the purchase
  • ·Gameplay unlock: check the recorded requirement in the database

Player Reports

Not an official known-issues list. Multiple player reports without an official acknowledgement. These stay player-reported, however many people repeat them.

  • Freezes during combat and on enemy turns

    PLAYER-REPORTED

Reported on PC and consoles both before and after the current patch.

  • Overwatch triggers that look wrong

    PLAYER-REPORTED

Reports continue after the patch, but the condition that should have triggered is rarely recorded with them.

  • Mission soft-locks, including unreachable enemies

    PLAYER-REPORTED

A final enemy behind a spawn door that cannot be reached leaves an eliminate-all objective open. This is a mission-state soft-lock, not a mechanic misunderstanding.

  • Crashes after a Mission completes

    PLAYER-REPORTED

Reported around the results and transition steps.

  • Menu and input soft-locks

    PLAYER-REPORTED

Reported around menus and weapon selection since launch.

A report becomes confirmed only through Official patch notes, an official known-issues list, or a behaviour that can be verified in the current build.

Lookup

Is This Already Fixed?

Search the launch-version issues that a patch already closed, and what the current build is expected to do.

Launch-version issues

  • A 100% hit chance could miss

    FIXED

On the current build a displayed 100% hit chance is expected to hit. If it still misses, it is a new report.

  • Beskar save temporarily removed

    FIXED

Keep the save where it is and check the build before you attempt any recovery step.

  • Save corruption after a forced shutdown

    FIXED

Quit from the menu where possible. If a save still looks wrong, preserve it before anything else.

  • Some preorder and Deluxe content not delivered

    FIXED

Confirm the build and the account. Remaining entitlement gaps go through official support rather than a workaround.

  • Several crash causes

    FIXED

Stability reports continued after the patch, so identify the crash point rather than treating “crash” as one problem.

These records stay published because the searches that find them still exist. The page does not pretend a fixed launch bug is currently broken.

Questions

Zero Company Troubleshooting FAQ

The long-tail versions of the questions above.

Why won’t my Mission progress?

Usually because the current objective names a specific target, Operator or interaction that has not been satisfied yet. Check the objective text, then the required Operator, then whether every earlier step is closed. If all of that holds and the objective still will not close, it is a state problem rather than a rules problem.

Why isn’t my objective updating?

An objective can stay open because it is waiting on a later step, a target that has not spawned, or an Operator that is not deployed. Walk the objective order rather than replaying the Mission from the start.

Why isn’t a Mission appearing?

Almost always an unmet prerequisite: a previous Mission, a conversation, a required Operator or a campaign state. This site holds 16 Missions with a recorded prerequisite out of 123 in the catalogue, and the mission check prints that requirement instead of guessing, so you can confirm the condition rather than restarting the game.

Why did a Mission disappear?

The campaign advanced. Expirable content can expire when a Cycle turns over, and some branches are mutually exclusive. Both are the game working as designed rather than a fault.

Why won’t Overwatch trigger?

Check whether the enemy actually crossed the active cone, whether line of sight existed, and whether the shot was resolved by the normal cover rules. Overwatch behaviour also changed across patches, so note your build before comparing notes with anyone else.

Can a 100% shot miss?

Not on the current build. It could on the launch version, where a displayed 100% hit chance could still miss. Confirm the build first — if it reproduces on the current patch it is worth reporting as a new issue.

Why can’t I use an Ability?

Either the Ability is not unlocked yet, or the Operator cannot act. An Ability locked behind a specialization, a Talent tier or a Bond is a requirement; an Operator who is Downed or injured is a game state.

Why is an upgrade locked?

Den upgrades, Black Market items and equipment slots unlock through prerequisites: a Facility, an earlier upgrade, a campaign fact or the roster. Read the requirement rather than assuming it is broken.

Why can’t I recruit an Operator?

Operators join through Missions, choices and campaign progress. If the Mission that recruits them has not appeared, the problem belongs to the Mission requirement, not to recruiting.

Why didn’t my progress save?

The official guidance is specific: if you quit before control returned to Hawks, recent progress may not have finished saving. Return control, wait a few seconds, and quit from the menu.

Why is my Beskar save missing?

A temporarily removed Beskar save was a launch-version issue that a patch addressed. Check the build first, and preserve the save rather than moving files around.

Why does Zero Company keep crashing?

Start from where it crashes rather than that it crashes. A crash before the menu, on load, at Mission start, during combat, on the enemy turn, after a Mission and back in the Den have different likely causes.

Why does the game freeze on enemy turns?

Enemy-turn freezes are among the most reported stability problems, and they were reported both before and after the current patch. Note whether the same Mission or action reproduces it and whether a reaction shot was queued.

How do I fix low FPS?

Treat performance separately from crashes. Check the upscaling setting before lowering image quality, and change one setting at a time so you know which change actually helped.

How do I repair Zero Company?

Use the official platform step: verify or repair the game files where the platform supports it, then clear the cache, then update the GPU driver on PC. Official low-risk steps come before any advanced workaround.

What bugs were fixed in Patch 1.1?

Among other fixes, the patch addressed the displayed 100% hit chance, a temporarily removed Beskar save, a save corruption case after a forced shutdown, part of the preorder and Deluxe entitlement delivery, and a batch of crashes.

Where do I report a Zero Company bug?

Through the official support channel. This page exists to make that report worth reading: platform, build, Mission, Operator, exact action, expected behaviour, actual behaviour, reproducibility and evidence.

Rules quoted above are the recorded behaviour of the game; technical steps come from official support, and anything labelled player-reported is unconfirmed. See how we label information.
